Getting Started Guide | Magnet Making Supplies Blog Post

New to magnet making? This basic getting-started supply list covers the essential tools and supplies you’ll need to start making magnets without overcomplicating it.

The tools, equipment, and Amazon finds I personally recommend for hobbyists, magnet makers, photobooth owners, event professionals, and growing creative businesses.

If you've recently discovered the world of magnet making, you've probably realized one thing pretty quickly...

There are a lot of supplies out there.

Some are essential. Some are nice to have. And some honestly just end up collecting dust.

Over the past couple of years, I've tested countless tools while building Fridge Flair® from my kitchen table into a growing business.

This page isn't a list of everything available on Amazon. It's simply a collection of products I personally use, recommend, and genuinely believe are worth buying.

Whether you're making magnets for family, selling at craft shows, running a photobooth, starting a side hustle, or building a full-time business, I hope these recommendations save you time, money, and a little frustration.

WHAT PRINTER SHOULD I BUY?

One of the questions I'm asked most often is exactly that.

While there are plenty of options available, these are the Epson EcoTank printers I recommend most often because they consistently produce beautiful photo-quality prints with a much lower cost per print than traditional cartridge printers.

Investing in a quality printer will make a noticeable difference in your finished products.

  Epson EcoTank ET-2980: https://amzn.to/4qaF4qT

If you're just getting started and want a reliable printer
without spending a fortune, the ET-2980 is an excellent
choice. It offers the same EcoTank ink system that
keeps printing costs low while producing great
everyday photo prints for hobbyists and beginners.

  Epson EcoTank ET 8500: https://amzn.to/4zhx77u

 ⭐ MY TOP RECOMMENDATION  ⭐
If you're serious about making high-quality photo magnets, this
is the printer I recommend. The Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8500
produces beautiful, vibrant colors with excellent detail, making it
  perfect for printing professional photos.

    Epson EcoTank ET 8550: https://amzn.to/4cGe9gV

  ⭐ MY TOP RECOMMENDATION  ⭐
This is the WIDE format version of the ET8500. The Epson
EcoTank Photo ET-8550 is awesome if you plan on doing bulk
orders because you'll be able to use wider and larger photo
paper, saving you printing time and money when processing
  those larger bulk orders.

  Epson EcoTank Refill Ink: https://amzn.to/4i4l9aQ

This is the exact refill ink you need for the ET-8500 and ET-8550
Epson printers. It is the Epson brand ink. Using off-brand ink will
  void your printers warranty.

WHAT TYPE OF PHOTO PAPER DO I NEED?

Koala Glossy Photo Paper: https://amzn.to/4wY8iMe

I've experimented with quite a few different photo papers over
the years, and this has become one of my favorites. It produces
bright colors, sharp images, and a smooth glossy finish. Perfect
  for photo magnet making.

WHAT TYPE OF PAPER CUTTER DO I NEED?

  Westcott 12" Wood Cutter: https://amzn.to/3SoQN8G

A good paper cutter saves an incredible amount of time,
especially if you also plan to make flexible magnets.
