I never planned to start a magnet business.
Like most things that stick (pun intended), it happened slowly, then all at once.
I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit, dabbling in various side-hustles over the years - booking shows for bands, social media management for small businesses, and making hot coco bombs around the holidays (something I still love to do!).
But this journey?
Well, it started around Thanksgiving 2024, with adding my son Micah's junior year school photo to the cheap floppy photo pocket on my fridge, like I do every year. Only this time, I was pausing and reminiscing of how quickly the years have flown by...and how much he is looking like a grown man, instead of my little "Micah-Moo" - the way I will always see him.
Growing up, my grandma was notorious for plastering these floppy photo pockets on her fridge with family photos, the grandkids (and now great-grandkids) school photos, scriptures, and special moments -- her entire world proudly lived on her fridge.
And in thinking about all of that, staring at my almost-grown son's photo, something shifted.
That one magnet made my kitchen feel warmer. I didn’t know it yet, but that was the spark that started Fridge Flair™ — a way to hold onto what matters, even when life moves fast.
Then, of course (since our phones listen to us, I swear, haha!), I started seeing videos on social media about custom photo magnet making -- and I was hooked!
I’m Jen — founder, maker, and single mom of two boys. I started this business from my kitchen table, with zero outside funding, and a whole lot of trial and error. I was looking for flexibility, purpose, and a creative outlet — something I could build that would also help support my family and bring people JOY. A brand that exudes who I am personally, professionally and creatively.
Now, Fridge Flair™ ships custom photo magnets, decorative fridge magnets, and really cool tap-to-play NFC magnets and keepsakes all over the country. Some go on fridges. Some end up in boutiques. Some are used for events and business promo items. Some go to weddings, where they play a couple’s first dance with a simple tap of a phone. Soooo many product ideas and possibilities!
But at the heart of it all is something simple:
A memory. A moment. Something that sticks.
This blog, Flair Notes, is where I’ll share the behind-the-scenes of growing this business — the tools I use, the mistakes I’ve made, and what I’ve learned about building a brand from scratch while raising two kids, working full-time and staying (mostly) sane.
If you’ve ever thought about launching your own product, or you just want a peek into what it’s like building something out of nothing — I’m glad you’re here.
Let’s build something fridgeworthy.
